Blurb from Goodreads:

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane.

Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.

Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in.

Captivated. Lured. Loved.

Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence…and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

My Review:

I read this book right off my high from reading OBSIDIAN. I was in that “I-Can’t-Get-Enough-Luxen” state. And even though this book is, technically, a novella since it’s much shorter than the average book, it was definitely not lacking in any way.

If you read OBSIDIAN, then you know about Dawson, Dee and Daemon’s brother. Well, this book is HIS story. This is another one of those that I don’t want to spoil. ESPECIALLY if you haven’t read OBSIDIAN yet. I could TOTALLY give too much away, if I’m not careful.

Let me just stick to what I CAN discuss.

First of all, I think this book can be read either before or after you read OBSIDIAN. I would probably suggest BEFORE, that way you won’t have any idea how this book ends. Either way, I feel closer to the characters, like I get to see a little bit more into what makes them behave the way they do in OBSIDIAN.

Daemon, for instance. I have never seen anyone more hell-bent on protecting his family. You see that all of his actions in OBSIDIAN are due, in large part, to what takes place here, in SHADOWS. And the same goes for Dee. Certain topics of conversation she has with Katy make SOOOO much more sense after reading this book.

As for Dawson and Bethany, although I didn’t love them QUITE as much as I do Katy and Daemon, I found myself absolutely aching for this couple. Their love was definitely a “love at first sight” kind, and that makes it special and intense in its own way. They have a very sweet and endearing love. They are a couple that DEFINITELY deserve a happily-ever-after.

Love. This. Book. Love. This. Series.

My Rating: 4/5 Stars

  1. I completely agree! In fact, I just posted my review of this recently, and I loved it just as much as you did! I'm glad I read Shadows after Obsidian, because it was like putting the pieces of a puzzle together, especially for Daemon. We see the way he is in Obsidian, and then in Shadows, we see WHY. I liked it like that.

    Great review! 😀
