After eight long years, Evadne will finally be reunited with her older sister, Halcyon, who has been proudly serving in the queen’s army. But when Halcyon appears earlier than expected, Eva knows something has gone terribly wrong. Halcyon is on the run, hunted by her commander and charged with murder.
Though Halcyon’s life is spared during her trial, the punishment is heavy. And when Eva volunteers to serve part of Halcyon’s sentence, she’s determined to find out exactly what happened. But as Eva begins her sentence, she quickly learns that there are fates much worse than death.

Welcome to the Sisters of Sword and Song blog tour!

I read The Queen’s Rising when it first came out a few years ago and LOVED it–so, I had a feeling this one would be a win for me too…

This book has a definite feel of ancient Greece–gods included–and that really set the whole feel of the story.

Evadne and Halcyon are two very different sisters in that one is non-magical and her place is at home. Whereas the other has some magic in her blood and uses it to fight for the queen.

The story begins with Evadne and family anticipating Halcyon’s return home after years of being away, training. But, unexpectedly, Halcyon shows up in trouble because she did something terrible. From there, I’d have to share spoilers and I won’t do that.

BUT, I can say that there is so much to this story and it’s characters are so full of life that even if the story had been flat–which it wasn’t–the characters were written in such a way that I would’ve still pressed on to read about them.

In the beginning, I wanted to feel badly for Evadne–she’s slightly crippled, missing her sister, and sacrifices herself in such a loving, brave way. But, Evadne will prove herself to be a force to be reckoned with.

Halcyon, who is extremely strong, finds herself in her own plight and has to be stronger of mind than body.

By the end of the story, I was so caught up in these girls’ lives that I breezed through this story in a couple of days.
